There’s no better way to honor the US of A than spending the day off playing some family-geared backyard games. These kid-approved activities pair perfectly with hot summer haze and barbecue days. An added bonus? They’re engaging and exciting enough to keep even the busiest of littles occupied all day long.

A star-spangled yard

Add some Fourth of July flair to your backyard bash with the help of DIY sparkling stars. All you’ll need is a stencil in the shape of a star and some good old-fashioned flour to get started. Simply lay your star-shaped stencil on the lawn and spray the grass with water from a spray bottle. Leaving the stencil in place, use a flour sifter to cover the damp star-shape with flour. Before you know it, your little one will have painted the yard with a galaxy of stars! Trust us, the mess is worth it. He

Starburst Stamping

For fabulous fireworks, cover a table with kraft paper or drawing paper. Then, take 7 bendable straws and tape them together so that the ends are arranged as a starburst. Spread red and blue washable paint onto paper plates, and then dip and stamp the starburst onto paper, one color at a time. Voila! An American masterpiece.

Bike Decoration Station

Give little bicycles a star-spangled makeover with your very own patriotic decoration station. Use crepe paper streamers to deck out spokes, or add decorative garland to kid’s bicycle frames. Whether you’re showing off your hard work in a parade, or going on a bike ride around the neighborhood, you can be sure this spectacle will help paint the town red, white, and blue.

Red, White, and Refreshed

These tricolored spritzers are a fun way to keep little ones hydrated in between hard-fought games of kan-jam and ladder ball.  Make several trays of ice cubes using beverages that are colored red, white, and blue. (We suggest making them with different flavors of Gatorade or Powerade). To serve, place to ice cubes in separate buckets and let guests make their own drinks with plain seltzer.

Patriotic Necklace

This DIY beaded necklace is an affordable and easy way to encourage patriotism. All you’ll need to complete this project is string, beads, and red or white straws! Little ones can get creative by stringing their necklaces in whatever pattern their heart desires. Not only is this a quick and easy activity, but it serves as an adorable accessory for kids to rock all day long.
