Baby Sprinkles 101

By Abby Tolbert /

Showering a soon-to-be mother with gifts is a tradition that’s been around since the Renaissance era, but that doesn’t mean new mamas are sticking to status quo. The ever-so-creative millennial Moms (that’s you!) have come up with the greatest variation of the traditional baby shower ever. Behold: the adorably practical baby sprinkle.

What is a baby sprinkle?

Surprisingly, it isn’t what happens when you change the diaper of a baby boy with a full bladder. A baby sprinkle is actually a low-key version of a traditional baby shower. Instead of being “showered” in gifts, the mom-to-be is “sprinkled” in them. (cute, right?)

Why have a baby sprinkle?

Baby sprinkles are great for Moms who have already been through the wringer and are on Baby #2 and beyond. Some items leftover from Baby #1, like high chairs, bassinets, and pack & plays, are reusable. But other necessities, like bottles, diapers, and two-seater strollers, are valuable for Moms with multiples.

Baby Sprinkle Theme Ideas

Sprinkles. Sprinkles everywhere.

There are so many endearing ways to incorporate literal sprinkles into your celebration, but a donut or ice cream theme are the two most obvious choices. (Did someone say “build your own sundaes”?)

Winnie the Pooh

Transform your baby sprinkle into the 100-acre wood with the help of muted pastels and Pooh-Bear’s closest companions. An adorable Pooh-inspired baby sprinkle party features honey pot cupcakes, honeysuckle fruit tea, and tree-stump centerpieces.

The B(A)B(Y)-Q

Expecting during the summertime? This cookout-inspired baby sprinkle comes complete with barbecue sauce party favors, chocolate chip cookies, and bright sunflower centerpieces.

Boho Baby Shower

Chalkboards, and tapestries, and wooden accent pieces, oh my! This boho themed baby sprinkle is what Instagram feed dreams are made of. Stay trendy with flower crowns for attendees and sustainable paper straws. Excessive? Maybe. But we’re here for it.
