Gifts for the Cook: Photo Journal

December 1, 2011

Photo of Gifts for the Cook: Photo Journal

By Stefan – Creative Director, Pinhole Press. My brother-in-law told me a few weeks ago that I’m the messiest cook he knows.  I tell myself it’s just a matter of opinion, or more likely the result of the “I cook, he cleans” thing we have going up at our weekend place.

Either way, a couple weeks ago I was looking for a recipe in my stacks and bins of meals ripped from magazines, handed down on index cards and written on napkins and thought I’d take his advice and finally get organized. Ashley had the great idea to turn our Pinhole journal into a cook book into which I could tape or write recipes so we’d have them all in one place. The journal is also a nice venue for the photos I sometimes take of the occasionally perfect 4-minute, soft-boiled egg.

I’m still putting everything together but I’m having fun with the process and even finding some great old standards I had completely forgotten about – like the one you see in the pic below passed down by Ashley’s mom:  Cary’s Vegetable Soup.  First ingredient?  1 lb ground beef…  delicious.

would you guys make a version that could include recipes entered digitally too? I have so many from websites that don’t look as nice pasted in as the older, handwritten index card versions.

Hello – I am interested in the food journal for a client’s bridal shower – can you advise where I can make or buy this? THANK YOU!
