I never aspired to cook or bake anything when I was a little girl. Easy Bake Oven? Not for me. I wasn’t that little girl who stood beside her mom in the kitchen and helped her prepare meals. Much to my mother’s dismay, she accepted that the actions of stirring, dicing and rolling weren’t in my arsenal of expertise.
It wasn’t until I was on my own – cooking for myself – that I realized I actually enjoyed (oh yes, I said enjoyed) the process of creating meals from scratch with my own two hands. With this new passion, I started going to mom for all of my favorite childhood recipes. She’d hand-write a few, send me emails and scan in her favorite Good Housekeeping recipes. They were all in different places and I simply couldn’t keep track of where I put them. I decided to consolidate all of her recipes into one lovely recipe journal that I can now access whenever I want to bring to life one of her delicious culinary creations. It’s a handmade cookbook with the most delicious “hand-me-down” recipes. And it’s something I’ll be able to hand to my own daughter when she is ready (as a little girl or as a grown woman!) to try her hand in the kitchen.
Thanks to Sarah E. for this great gifting idea!
